Nutrifoods Ghana Limited has been highlighted as a leading example of private-sector alignment with government policy following a working visit by the Minister for Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Abdul-Rashid Pelpuo, to the company’s manufacturing facility in Tema.
The Minister praised Nutrifoods for operating a 24-hour shift system, describing it as a practical demonstration of the government’s 24-hour economy agenda aimed at boosting productivity, expanding job opportunities and driving economic growth.
Dr. Pelpuo also commended the company’s strong safety record, noting that Nutrifoods has operated for more than 14 years without recording any lost time due to accidents. He described this as evidence of strict adherence to occupational safety and health standards, as well as effective labour-management relations.
During the tour of the company’s tomato processing and canning facility—the largest of its kind in West Africa—the Minister expressed satisfaction with Nutrifoods’ commitment to producing high-quality, locally made products. He noted that all the company’s major brands, including Tasty Tom, NutriSnax, Royal King Cracker and Perk, are developed and produced in Ghana by Ghanaian workers.
“I am impressed that the company is firmly established here, creating value locally and producing Ghanaian brands that meet international standards,” Dr. Pelpuo said.
He stressed that the government views the private sector as a critical partner in addressing unemployment and reiterated its readiness to support businesses that contribute meaningfully to job creation and skills development.
Nutrifoods Ghana Limited, a joint venture between Olam and Sanyo, has nearly 15 years of local operations and employs close to 2,000 people. According to its Managing Director and Business Head, Mr. Jay Anjaria, the company continues to invest heavily in developing local intellectual and technical capacity, ensuring that its workforce meets global manufacturing benchmarks.
Mr. Anjaria noted that Nutrifoods has been recognised as a Top Employer in Ghana and Africa for five consecutive years by the Top Employers Institute, reflecting its strong people-centred policies, inclusive work culture and focus on employee development.
The visit, which included senior officials from the Ministry of Labour, Jobs and Employment, reinforced the government’s commitment to strengthening collaboration with responsible private enterprises as part of efforts to build a resilient economy and create sustainable employment.
