The Royal Bretuo Families of Akyem Asamang Tamfoe and Asante Asamang have formally announced the one-week observation of the late H.E. Dr. Charles Yaw Brempong Yeboah, a distinguished Ghanaian statesman, scholar and diplomat whose life of public service spanned decades.

Dr. Brempong Yeboah, a former Member of Parliament for Atiwa Constituency, former Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, former Deputy Minister for Labour and Manpower, former Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs, and Ghana’s former Ambassador to Japan, passed on to glory on January 30, 2026, at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC).

In a solemn invitation extended to friends, sympathizers and the general public, the Royal Bretuo Families described his life as a “legacy of honour and exemplary leadership whose name will forever be remembered.”

The one-week observation ceremony will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, at the Transitions Funeral Home Grounds, Haatso–Atomic Road, Accra, from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

The family noted that the gathering will serve as a moment to celebrate and reflect on the remarkable journey of a man whose impact transcended generations.

“As the Royal Bretuo Families of Akyem Asamang Tamfoe and Asante Asamang gather to celebrate and observe the One Week funeral ceremony in loving memory of H.E. The event is expected to also witness the presence of former Heads of State, including John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. The Rt. Hon. Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, will attend alongside the Majority and Minority Leadership of Parliament, former and current Members of Parliament.

Dr. Brempong Yeboah’s public life was marked by distinguished service in Parliament and at the executive level of government, as well as in academia. He previously served as Rector of the University College of Agriculture and Environmental Studies (UCAES) and as a Senior lecturer at the University of Ghana, Legon.

Described by family members as a devoted father, accomplished scholar and patriotic servant of the state, his passing has been met with deep sorrow across political and traditional circles.

*Tribute*

On behalf of the family, Abusuapanin Kwame Adu and Oberempong Nana Adu Bonsu Agyekum Prempeh, a nephew of H.E. Hon. Dr. Charles Yaw Brempong Yeboah, paid a glowing tribute to the late statesman, describing his legacy as “a life of service and dedication.”

In a heartfelt message, they said that Ghana had lost not only a distinguished politician but also a compassionate leader whose impact extended beyond politics to academia and diplomacy.

“Today, we gather to honor and celebrate the life of a remarkable individual… whose passing has left an irreplaceable void in the hearts of his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched,” the family stated.

Dr. Yeboah, a respected Ghanaian politician, entomologist and public servant, passed away on January 30, 2026, at the age of 72. His death has been widely mourned by political leaders, traditional authorities and members of the academic community.

Born on May 5, 1954, in Atiwa West in the Eastern Region, Dr. Yeboah’s life was marked by what the family described as a “deep-rooted commitment to education, service, and national development.” He earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Ghana and rose to become a Senior Lecturer in Entomology at the University of Ghana’s Faculty of Agriculture. In that role, he mentored generations of students and contributed significantly to research and sustainable agricultural practices.

The family noted that Dr. Yeboah’s expertise in entomology was not merely academic but practical, as he used his knowledge to promote agricultural development that benefitted communities across Ghana.

Dr. Yeboah later transitioned into politics, representing the Atiwa West Constituency on the ticket of the New Patriotic Party in the Fourth Parliament of the Fourth Republic. According to the family, his tenure in Parliament was distinguished by dedication to his constituents and tireless legislative work.

His service to the nation extended to the executive arm of government, where he served as Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Deputy Minister for Works and Housing, and Deputy Minister of Labour and Manpower. He was subsequently appointed Ghana’s Ambassador to Japan, a role in which he strengthened diplomatic ties and advanced Ghana’s interests on the international stage.

“Through his positions, Dr. Yeboah worked to ensure that Ghana’s development was not just a dream but a reality,” the family emphasized, highlighting his commitment to international cooperation and national progress.

Beyond his public accomplishments, the family described the late statesman as a man of integrity, humility and compassion. They family portrayed Dr. Yeboah as a mentor, a listener and a guide who placed the needs of others above his own.

“He was a father, brother, friend and colleague whose personal relationships were as meaningful to him as his public work,” the family said, adding that his leadership style was grounded in collaboration and service.

Reflecting on his passing, the family described it as a profound loss to Ghana, noting that while the nation mourns, it must also celebrate a legacy that will endure for generations.

“His vision for a better Ghana, his relentless work to improve lives, and his deep belief in the potential of the Ghanaian people will always be remembered,” the family said.

The family further urged all who were touched by Dr. Yeboah’s life to uphold the values he embodied and continue the work he began.

“As we gather, let us not only mourn his passing but celebrate his life. His journey may have ended, but his impact will live on forever. He has left an indelible mark on this world,” the family stated.

The family also prayed for the peaceful repose of the late statesman’s soul and extended his deepest condolences to the bereaved family.
