The parents of eight-year-old Jenessi Afenya Amponsah, who tragically lost her life during a reported stampede at the Golden Child Educational Complex in Berekum East Municipality, have criticised the school for its handling of the incident.
Jenessi, a pupil of the school, died on July 29, 2025, during its graduation ceremony. Her father, Mr. Charles Kyere, who resides abroad, expressed frustration that the school authorities neither informed him promptly of his daughter’s death nor visited the family to sympathise during the funeral.
Speaking at a press conference in Berekum, he described Jenessi as “an exceptional child” and vowed that the family would not relent in seeking justice.
Her mother, Mrs. Beatrice Afenya Kyere, said the family suspected foul play and called on the Ghana Police Service to investigate the circumstances leading to the stampede and the role of the school in the tragedy.
The family insists that accountability from the school and a transparent investigation are necessary to prevent such an incident from recurring.
