The Adenta Police have reportedly arrested a man (name withheld)at Akporman in connection with an alleged land dispute after he reportedly claimed to be a staff member of the Jubilee House.
According to information available to the media, the suspect allegedly arrived at a disputed parcel of land accompanied by armed military personnel, claiming that the security detail had been brought in to protect the property.
His alleged claim of affiliation with the Jubilee House is now said to be part of investigations by the police.
The incident reportedly stems from a dispute over ownership of the land, with the Chief Executive Officer of Dream Alive Construction Limited, Mr Enoch Addokwei Pappoe, asserting that the property in question belongs to his company.
Mr Pappoe said Dream Alive Construction Limited entered into an agreement with three families—Numo Mashie, Olewolon and Nii Akpor—in relation to the development and registration of lands at Akporman.
Under the agreement, he explained, his company was entitled to a 30 per cent interest in the lands after undertaking the agreed obligations.
He further maintained that his company subsequently took steps to register the Akporman lands pursuant to the agreement reached with the three families.
According to Mr Pappoe, he has judgment and possession.
The latest incident, according to Mr Pappoe, has raised concerns over the use of individuals claiming political or governmental connections, as well as armed personnel, in matters relating to disputed land. He said, the soldiers had hidden their guns into bush and calling on chief of defence staff(CDS) to discourage his men from such act.
The arrest of the alleged Jubilee House staffer is expected to assist the police in establishing the circumstances surrounding his presence at the disputed site, the identity and authority of the military personnel who accompanied him, and the basis of his alleged claim to the property.
The police are yet to publicly establish whether the suspect is genuinely affiliated with the Jubilee House or whether any offence was committed in connection with the incident.
“My workers called me from the site that there are soldiers all over the place, I urged them to asked their mission and they said, they were there on the instructions of their boss from the Jubilee house,” Mr Pappoe noted.
Authorities have urged persons involved in land disputes to seek redress through the appropriate legal and institutional channels rather than resorting to intimidation or the deployment of armed personnel.
