The Accra Regional Police Command has intensified its crackdown on cyber and telecommunications crime with the arrest of three foreign nationals suspected to be operating an illegal SIM box setup from residential apartments at Sakumono Ramsa Site.
The suspects — Timileyin Fakunle, 30, Begun Adedeji, 31, and Olamide Roheemot, 28 — were picked up from separate apartments following an intelligence-led operation, according to a police statement issued by Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region.
A search of the premises reportedly uncovered sophisticated electronic devices, SIM boxes and numerous assorted SIM cards, which investigators believe were being used to facilitate SIM box fraud, a crime known to cause significant revenue losses to the telecommunications sector.
Police said preliminary interrogations led the suspects to name two other alleged accomplices, identified only as Mike and Kpalumi, who are currently on the run. Investigators are also pursuing a Chinese national, identified as Tomy, believed to be the ringleader who remotely controlled the SIM box operations.
The Police Command has begun working with the National Communications Authority to safely dismantle the equipment and conduct technical analysis of the retrieved items to strengthen the ongoing investigations.
All three suspects remain in police custody as inquiries continue, while efforts are underway to track down the other persons linked to the alleged fraud network.
In the statement, the Police cautioned landlords and residents to exercise due diligence when renting or subletting properties, warning that criminal networks often exploit residential spaces to conceal illegal activities. The public was also urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious behaviour to security agencies.
The Accra Regional Police Command reaffirmed its commitment to combating cybercrime and telecommunication-related offences, assuring the public of sustained operations to protect national revenue and public safety.
