The Ghana Police Service has intensified its crackdown on online threats, leading to the arrest of William Gyimah, founder of Elohim International Ministry, over alleged death threats directed at Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang.
The 49-year-old pastor was picked up in Kasoa during an intelligence-led operation on April 7, following the circulation of a viral video on social media platforms, including TikTok.
Police say the video was detected through ongoing digital surveillance by the IGP’s Cyber Vetting and Enforcement Team, prompting swift intervention.
The suspect has since been transferred to the Special Investigations Unit of the Criminal Investigations Department for further probing, as authorities signal a firm stance against the misuse of online platforms to issue threats.
The arrest highlights growing efforts by law enforcement to monitor and respond to digital content that poses potential risks to public officials and national security.
