A community-level patrol in Aponteng Krom, Western Region, led to the arrest of a young man found in possession of a locally manufactured pistol and ammunition, according to the Western Central Regional Police Command.
The suspect, identified as Yahaya Seidu, was apprehended on Wednesday, May 29, 2025, during a routine security sweep aimed at curbing rising incidents of illegal firearms in the area.
In a statement shared with the Ghana News Agency, the police disclosed that Seidu was caught with a locally fabricated pistol and two live cartridges. When questioned on the scene, he was unable to provide any lawful reason for possessing the weapon.
“The suspect failed to justify why he had the weapon in his possession, leading to his immediate arrest,” the statement noted.
Seidu is currently in police custody and assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities say he will be formally charged and arraigned once investigations are completed.
This arrest forms part of heightened security operations in the region to clamp down on illegal arms possession and prevent potential violent crimes.
