President John Dramani Mahama has given Chief Justice Gertrude Torkonoo a 10-day deadline to submit a preliminary response to three petitions seeking her removal from office.
The directive follows a request by the Chief Justice for copies of the petitions filed against her. However, President Mahama expressed disappointment that her request was leaked on social media before he could review it.
The petitions, which have sparked debate in legal and political circles, challenge the Chief Justice’s conduct and suitability for office. While the specific allegations remain undisclosed, legal experts say her response will be critical in determining the next steps, including a possible formal inquiry.
