The committee established by President John Dramani Mahama to investigate three separate petitions filed against the Chief Justice is set to begin hearings tomorrow, Thursday, May 15, 2025, according to a statement from the Presidency.
The five-member committee, chaired by Supreme Court Justice Gabriel Scott Pwamang, was formed in line with Article 146(6) of the 1992 Constitution. This provision empowers the President to set up a committee to investigate allegations against a Chief Justice, following consultations with the Council of State and a preliminary determination of a prima facie case.
The committee will convene three times a week and is expected to submit its findings and recommendations to the President upon completing its work.
The statement, signed by Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, emphasized that the committee’s work is a critical step in maintaining judicial accountability and upholding the rule of law.
