A civic group known as the New Voters Forum is demanding the immediate termination of the government’s contract with Ghana Link Network Services Limited, citing serious concerns over the performance of the Integrated Customs Management System (ICUMS).
At a press briefing, Conqueror Mawudzo Korto, the group’s convenor, called for an urgent and independent audit of the agreement between the Ministry of Trade and Ghana Link. He warned that the inefficiencies of ICUMS are eroding confidence in Ghana’s trade systems and threatening its potential to become a competitive logistics hub in the West African region.
“The ICUMS platform is not only unreliable but has also become a major obstacle to efficient trade operations. This inefficiency is costing Ghana its edge in regional commerce,” Mr. Korto stated.
Describing the current arrangement as a “corrupt model,” Korto accused the government of allowing the country’s trade architecture to be monopolized by a private operator under questionable circumstances. He warned that if the status quo is maintained, it could result in severe long-term economic consequences.
The New Voters Forum is calling on Parliament, civil society, the media, and trade associations to step in and demand transparency and accountability in the management of Ghana’s trade infrastructure.
“National interest must take precedence. This system is too critical to be left in the hands of an underperforming contractor,” Korto added.
The group has hinted at launching broader advocacy campaigns if the government fails to act swiftly.
