The Nkwanta South Municipal Assembly has distributed start-up items to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the District Assembly Common Fund initiative, as part of efforts to enhance economic inclusion and self-reliance among vulnerable groups.
During the presentation ceremony, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Mr. Joseph Antwi Awal, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering PWDs through sustainable livelihood support programmes.
He said the initiative is aimed at equipping beneficiaries with the necessary tools and resources to establish or expand their small-scale enterprises, thereby reducing poverty and dependency.
“The Assembly’s goal is not only to provide financial assistance but to ensure that beneficiaries build stable and independent livelihoods,” Mr. Awal said. “We believe that empowering PWDs through productive ventures contributes to the overall development of our municipality.”
He also advised the beneficiaries to make prudent use of the items received and cautioned them against using these assets as collateral for loans, warning that such actions could undermine the purpose of the intervention.
Mr. Evans Boanya, Municipal Chairman of PWDs in Nkwanta South, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the MCE and the government for their continued support. He said the initiative would go a long way toward improving the living conditions of PWDs and fostering a sense of inclusion in community development.
“We are grateful for the Assembly’s recognition of our needs. This support will not only sustain our businesses but also restore dignity and hope,” Mr. Boanya stated.
The distribution forms part of the government’s broader social protection strategy to promote inclusive growth and empower marginalised groups through entrepreneurship and vocational support.
