Parts of the Children’s Ward at the Saboba Assemblies of God Hospital in the Northern Region were destroyed in a fire outbreak late Saturday night, but swift action by the Ghana National Fire Service and community volunteers prevented casualties and further damage.
The incident caused panic among patients, caregivers, and staff, prompting an immediate evacuation of all children to safer areas within the hospital, ensuring uninterrupted medical care.
Dr. Bukari Samuel Kando, the hospital’s Medical Superintendent, praised the rapid response, noting that the coordinated efforts of fire officers and community members prevented what could have become a major tragedy given the vulnerability of the children on admission.
While the cause of the fire is still under investigation, preliminary assessments are ongoing to determine the extent of the damage and the possible source. Dr. Kando reassured the public that measures are being put in place to maintain healthcare services despite the setback.
The incident highlights the importance of emergency preparedness and community collaboration in safeguarding vulnerable patients during crises.
