The ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Sub Regional Africa Qualifier B concluded on a damp note at the Achimota Cricket Ovals as relentless rain forced the cancellation of all three fixtures on the final day.
Scheduled matches between Ghana and Tanzania, Seychelles and Eswatini, and St. Helena and Malawi were abandoned due to waterlogged pitches, leaving points shared and a subdued finale. Despite the washout, earlier performances ensured Tanzania and hosts Ghana advanced to the Regional Final in 2027.
Tanzania topped the table on net run rate, remaining unbeaten throughout the tournament. Captain Kassim Nassoro Chete praised his team’s consistency, highlighting the depth and aggressive approach that propelled them through the week.
Ghana Cricket Association President Emmanuel Owusu-Ansah Asare lauded the event’s organization, noting the growing local support and the country’s capability to host high-level international cricket in Africa.
Individual accolades went to Tanzania’s Ivan Selemani, named Player of the Tournament, with Augustin Ajith securing Best Batsman honors and Lakish Bakania taking Best Bowler for his nine wickets at an economy of 2.87.
The rain may have dampened the final day, but Ghana and Tanzania’s progression underscores a successful tournament and growing prominence of African cricket.
