GCB Bank PLC is shifting its focus from short-term gains to long-term resilience after delivering a record-breaking financial performance in 2025.
Managing Director Farihan Alhassan says the bank’s historic profits mark more than just a milestone—they signal a deliberate strategy to build a strong and sustainable financial institution capable of withstanding future economic pressures.
The bank posted unprecedented figures, including over GH¢2 billion in net profit and GH¢3.2 billion in profit before tax, supported by robust growth across key areas of its operations. Customer deposits rose significantly, boosting the bank’s balance sheet and enabling a sharp increase in lending activity.
This expansion in loans and advances reflects renewed business confidence as Ghana’s economy shows signs of recovery. At the same time, GCB strengthened its revenue streams by increasing income from fees, commissions, and trading activities—reducing reliance on traditional interest-based earnings.
The strategy comes at a time when falling interest rates are tightening margins in the banking sector, pushing institutions to diversify income sources. GCB’s strong growth in non-funded income has therefore emerged as a critical buffer.
Despite rising operating costs, the bank maintained efficiency levels, while improvements in asset quality further reinforced its financial position. A notable decline in non-performing loans and reduced risk costs contributed to the overall profitability.
Mr Alhassan emphasised that the bank’s priority is not just maintaining its current performance but building a durable franchise that can adapt to changing economic conditions.
With stronger risk management systems, improved loan recovery, and a stabilising macroeconomic environment, GCB Bank is positioning itself as a key player in Ghana’s financial sector with a long-term growth outlook.
