Kwame Governs Agbodza has issued a stern warning to contractors working on the Techiman-Wenchi Road project, threatening contract termination over what he described as unacceptable delays despite significant government payments.
During an inspection tour of the project site, the Roads and Highways Minister expressed frustration over the slow pace of work, revealing that the government had already released GH¢66 million to the contractors under its flagship ‘Big Push’ road infrastructure programme.
According to him, the contractors have failed to justify why progress on the road remains slow, even though the contract was awarded in December 2025.
“Yet we haven’t seen any meaningful improvement,” he said, warning that the government would not hesitate to terminate the contract and re-award it if delays persist without valid explanation.
Mr Agbodza stressed that the Techiman-Wenchi Road remains a critical project under the government’s infrastructure agenda because of its importance in improving transportation, boosting trade and driving economic growth in the area.
He noted that the broader ‘Big Push’ initiative is intended to improve the movement of goods and services across the country and urged contractors to accelerate work while maintaining quality standards.
Francis Owusu Antwi, who joined the inspection, assured residents that the regional administration would strengthen oversight to ensure contractors deliver quality roads on schedule.
