Liverpool have etched their name in football history once again, securing a record-equalling 20th English top-flight title — and only their second Premier League crown — in spectacular fashion under new head coach Arne Slot.
A dominant 5-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur at Anfield on Sunday ensured Liverpool soared out of reach of nearest challengers Arsenal, sealing the title with four matches still to spare. The triumph makes Liverpool only the seventh team to secure the Premier League trophy this early.
For Slot, it’s a dream start, delivering silverware in his very first season. “The way we arrived on the bus, with all those fans outside, there was no way we were losing this game,” Slot said, reflecting on the electric atmosphere that inspired a comeback after conceding early.
Sunday’s celebrations were especially meaningful: it is the first time Liverpool fans will witness their team lift the Premier League trophy at Anfield, unlike the ghostly triumph of 2019/20 during COVID-19 restrictions.
At the heart of Liverpool’s charge was Mohamed Salah, whose brilliance has propelled him to the top of the league’s scoring and assist charts with 28 goals and 18 assists — directly involved in 58% of Liverpool’s 80 goals this season. Salah, taking a jubilant selfie with fans after netting Liverpool’s fourth, described the experience as “100 per cent better than last time.”
Liverpool’s second Premier League title also places them fifth outright in all-time Premier League rankings, and their 20th English championship ties them with arch-rivals Manchester United.
Salah, who recently extended his contract, now eyes two more personal milestones: becoming only the second player after Thierry Henry to achieve a 20-goal, 20-assist season, and challenging the record for the most goal involvements (47) in a Premier League campaign, held jointly by Andrew Cole and Alan Shearer.
“Hopefully, I’ll break it soon,” a beaming Salah told Sky Sports. “I know I’m close!”
With the trophy parade now in sight, Liverpool and their fans are ready to celebrate a triumph born from resilience, leadership, and Salah’s sparkling form — marking the beginning of a new and promising chapter under Arne Slot.
