Black Stars head coach Carlos Queiroz has provided a reassuring update on Antoine Semenyo after the forward went down injured during Ghana’s 2-1 defeat to Croatia in Philadelphia.
Ghana ended the group stage in third place in Group L following the loss, in which Croatia secured victory through goals from Petar Sučić and Nikola Vlašić, while Derrick Luckassen netted Ghana’s only goal.
Concern briefly arose late in the match when Semenyo was seen in discomfort after going down inside the Croatian penalty area. The attacker received medical attention on the pitch but was able to continue until the final whistle.
Speaking after the game, Queiroz downplayed fears over the player’s condition, describing the incident as minor.
“It’s just a knock; he will be alright,” the coach said.
On the overall performance, Queiroz pointed to defensive lapses as the key factor in Ghana’s defeat, stressing that costly errors made the difference in a tightly contested match.
“Croatia scored two goals, two easy goals… When you score one more goal than the opponent, you have the merit to win the game. Simple like that. It means we made one more mistake than the opponent,” he explained.
Ghana will now shift attention to their Round of 32 fixture against Colombia in Kansas City on Saturday, with Semenyo expected to be available for selection.
