Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Iddie Adams, has rejected reports suggesting that a large number of Ghanaian supporters have been denied visas ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, describing the claims as inaccurate and misleading.
According to him, the group of organised fans being coordinated by the Ministry has not yet even begun the visa interview process with the United States Embassy, contrary to media reports suggesting widespread refusals.
He explained that the Ministry has been engaging with the Embassy to streamline arrangements for official supporters, but the selected group is still awaiting scheduled interviews.
“I have read many reports that suggest visa refusal and that only 18 Ghanaian fans have been given visas. The truth of the matter is that the organized fans that the Ministry is leading are yet to submit themselves to the American Embassy for visa interviews,” he stated.
The Minister added that individuals and groups allegedly affected by visa rejections were not part of the officially designated supporters’ contingent being managed by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation.
Earlier reports had claimed that over 147 Ghanaian supporters had been denied visas, sparking public concern and debate about the ability of fans to travel for the tournament.
2026 FIFA World Cup is set to take place across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with matches scheduled in major cities including New York, Los Angeles, Miami, Dallas, Toronto, Vancouver, and Mexico City.
The Buem Constituency Member of Parliament also urged journalists and media houses to verify information with the Ministry before publication, cautioning that unverified reports could create unnecessary panic among supporters and the public ahead of the global tournament.
