Former NFL star and Super Bowl champion Isaiah Stanback is charting a new playbook—this time off the field—in a bid to empower Ghanaian youth through a multi-sport academy.
Currently on a four-day visit to Ghana, Stanback is exploring opportunities to establish a state-of-the-art sports academy that will not only focus on soccer, Ghana’s national passion, but also introduce and develop American football and basketball.
Addressing journalists in Accra, the ex-Dallas Cowboys and New England Patriots player said his mission is driven by the untapped potential he has observed among Ghanaian youth.
“There is a wealth of raw, athletic talent here,” Stanback remarked. “What’s needed is the infrastructure and expertise to nurture it. That’s why I’m here—to understand the sports ecosystem and explore how I can help build something transformational.”
Stanback emphasized that many Ghanaian children already possess the foundational skills that could easily transition into other sports, including American football. “It’s not just about bringing something new—it’s about expanding the options and helping them realise what’s possible beyond what they know,” he said.
He further noted that discussions with Ghanaian leadership had been promising, with strong signals of support for the development of such an academy.
“This isn’t a short-term mission,” Stanback added. “We’re putting together a game plan that brings in international expertise and long-term commitment to athlete development in Ghana.”
As a Super Bowl XLVI champion and former wide receiver, Stanback’s presence in Ghana adds a significant boost to the growing interest in diverse sports development in the country.
His visit is already stirring excitement among local sports stakeholders, who view it as an opportunity to reimagine youth development through a broader sporting lens.
