Leaders of football supporters in Ghana have renewed calls for discipline and responsible behaviour among fans planning to attend the 2026 FIFA World Cup in North America.
The appeal was made by the Kasoa Chairman of the Progressive Sports Supporters Union of Ghana (PROSSU Ghana), Mr Francis Clottey, who stressed the importance of projecting a positive national image during the global tournament in the United States, Mexico and Canada.
He cautioned that inappropriate conduct by supporters abroad could damage Ghana’s reputation, urging fans to act responsibly and comply with immigration rules, including returning before their visas expire.
The call aligns with earlier concerns raised by President John Dramani Mahama, who warned that failure to adhere to visa conditions could jeopardise Ghana’s recent progress in securing favourable travel arrangements, including the restoration of five-year non-immigrant visas.
Mr Clottey made the remarks after PROSSU Ghana donated footballs and jerseys to a third-division club, Manchester United, based in Ho in the Volta Region.
Beyond the call for discipline, executives of PROSSU Ghana also highlighted the need to strengthen grassroots football development in Ghana.
They urged the Ghana Football Association and the Ministry of Sports to invest more in colts and juvenile football to nurture young talents and ensure a steady pipeline of quality players for the national teams.
The appeal underscores growing efforts by stakeholders to combine fan responsibility with long-term development of the sport as Ghana prepares for another appearance on football’s biggest stage.
