Ghana stands to benefit significantly from the recent surge in global gold prices, Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson has told Parliament, describing the development as a major economic opportunity for the country.
Speaking on Wednesday, February 25, 2026, Dr. Forson explained that the unprecedented rise in gold prices is driven by increased international risks, sustained accumulation by central banks, and strong demand for safe-haven assets.
“This trend has strengthened export earnings and enhanced external reserves for gold-producing countries, including Ghana,” the Minister stated, noting that current prices far exceed long-term historical averages. He added that gold has become a reliable avenue for accelerating reserve accumulation without resorting to public borrowing or disrupting domestic markets.
Dr. Forson also cited forecasts from international institutions indicating that elevated gold prices are expected to persist in the medium term, providing a sustained economic advantage.
The Minister’s announcement highlights the strategic importance of Ghana’s gold sector in bolstering the national economy, supporting foreign exchange reserves, and reinforcing the country’s financial stability amid global uncertainties.
