Police has arrested Abdul – Aziz Idrrisu, who is also known as Baaluuse, 33, suspected of killing General Constable Seth Oppong Damoah at Karimenga on the Bolgatanga – Tamale Highway in December last year.
A police reports states that the suspect wss arrested on February 17, 2026, at his hide out in Polego, a suburb of Bolgatanga.
The report further continued that police personnel from the National Police Intelligence Directorate ( NPID), Accra in collaboration with their counterparts in Upper East Region in an intelligence led operation apprehended Abdul- Aziz Iddris.
According to a police report, the suspect and his accomplices, who are yet to be arressted had been on the police wanted list for allegedly attacking officers at the Karimenga police barrier, where General Constable Damoah was shot dead, while General Corprals Nyanku Charles and Abu Moro were injured.
It said Abdul- Aziz has been identified as a worrior for one of the feuding factions in the Bawku confict. A brief search on three mobile phones taken from him suggest that the suspect and others at large have particiated actively in the protracted Bawku conflict and has also killed a lot of people.
” Futher search on his phone also revealed that the suspect belong to a Whatsapp group called Trusted Friends with the image of Alhaji Seidu Abagri a rival chief of Bawku chieftaincy disputes as their profile picture. A group mainly patronise by Moshies and Mamprusis,” the report stated.
It also added that the suspect was seen in a video displaying a number of AK- 47 assault riffles in a sack and pistol at a location believed to be in Bawku.
It continued to state that the suspect was captured in an audio message requesting more arms and ammunition to enable the Mamprusis to defeat the Kusaasis in the ongoing conflict.
Information available also shows that the suspect and one Mark at large are behind the importation of weapons and ammunitions to Bawku.
“Information further shows the that on December 29, 2025, the suspect and his accomplices at large planned and launched attack on the police performing their lawful duty at the Karimenga barrier. The suspect went into hiding until the police traced him to his hideout and apprehended him,” it said.
At about 11 p.m on Sunday, December 28, 2025, General Constable Damoah was shot and killed at Karimenga on the Bolgatanga – Tamale Highway.
The attack left two other police personnel injured and led to a temporary security withdrawal along tge route.
The incident happened when gunmen attacked a bus travelling on the highway. Sources indicates that police officers responded to a distress call after foiling the initial attack.
The gunmen, who had fled into the bush, reportedly returned and launched a second assult, this time targeting the Karimenga Police checkpoint.
