Telecel Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to digital education by renovating and equipping an Information and Communication Technology (ICT) lab for Anfoega Akukome E.P. Primary School in the Volta Region. The initiative, spearheaded by employees under the company’s Red Hearts Employee Volunteering Programme, is set to transform digital learning for over 1,700 students in the Anfoega Traditional Community.
The project, funded through a combination of contributions from Telecel Ghana Foundation and internal crowdfunding by employees from the Finance, Digital Transformation, and Commercial Operations departments, reflects the power of collective action in driving community development.
The fully refurbished ICT lab now boasts 30 modern computers, internet connectivity, and new furniture, ensuring that students can gain practical technology skills essential for their academic and professional futures. Beyond serving the school, the facility will be open to young people from 13 surrounding communities, fostering digital literacy across the region.
At the official handing-over ceremony, Paramount Chief of the Anfoega Traditional Area, Togbe Tepre Hodo, expressed gratitude to Telecel Ghana and encouraged students to maximize the opportunity.
“Technology is shaping the world, and I urge students to embrace it. This facility is not just for the school but for every young person in the community. Everyone is welcome to take advantage of it,” he stated.
Representing the Telecel Ghana Foundation, Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson, Head of the Foundation, Sustainability, and External Relations, highlighted the broader impact of the project.
“Our Red Hearts programme showcases how collaboration and corporate social responsibility can create lasting change. This ICT lab will open doors to new opportunities, broaden students’ horizons, and equip them with the skills needed to thrive in the digital economy.”
For Justice Norley, an ICT teacher at the school, the new facility marks a turning point in digital education for the students.
“Now, our students can move beyond theory and engage in practical sessions. This will not only enhance their understanding of technology but also improve their performance in their final exams and future studies.”
The Telecel Ghana Foundation’s Connected Learning initiative, which seeks to bridge the digital divide in underserved communities, aligns perfectly with this project. As students of Anfoega Akukome E.P. Primary School embark on a new era of digital learning, the impact of Telecel Ghana’s investment is already being felt.
For young student Roberta Afare, the ICT lab is a dream come true.
“This lab will help us learn how to type, explore ICT through constant practice, and introduce us to careers in technology. It’s an exciting time for all of us!”
With the launch of this state-of-the-art ICT facility, Telecel Ghana continues to champion digital education, empowering the next generation with the tools they need to succeed in an increasingly tech-driven world.
