Otumfo Amoah Sasereku IV, Omanhene of the Twifoman Traditional Area, has issued a powerful appeal to traditional rulers and community leaders to take decisive action in protecting school lands from the destructive activities of illegal miners, sand winners, and encroachers.
Addressing the 10th Anniversary and Speech and Prize Giving Day celebration of Twifo Hemang Senior High Technical School, the respected traditional leader stressed that safeguarding educational lands was a critical investment in the future of Ghana’s youth and the nation’s development.
“It is our collective duty as traditional authorities to preserve the lands of our educational institutions. These lands are not for sale, nor are they to be exploited for selfish gain. We must defend them for future generations,” Otumfo Amoah Sasereku IV declared to loud applause.
The anniversary event, held under the theme “Sustaining Quality, Historic and Purposeful Secondary Technical Education: The Role of Stakeholders,” brought together educators, government officials, traditional leaders, parents, and students.
Otumfo Amoah Sasereku pledged his personal commitment to protect the lands of Twifo Hemang Senior High Technical School and called on chiefs across Ghana to rise to the challenge of protecting public school property from destruction and encroachment.
The Headmistress of the school, Mrs. Augustina Asamoah, echoed the need for stronger stakeholder involvement. She revealed that infrastructural deficits—including limited dormitories, outdated science laboratories, and inadequate staff accommodation—were major challenges affecting teaching and learning.
“Many of our students are forced to live off-campus, which affects their focus and academic performance,” she lamented. She appealed to government agencies, NGOs, and alumni to come to the school’s aid.
Meanwhile, the Central Regional Director of Education, Mrs. Juliet Dufie Otamie, emphasized the role of parents in addressing social issues such as student indiscipline and drug abuse, noting that schools alone cannot resolve these growing concerns.
Delivering a message on behalf of the Central Regional Minister, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for Twifo Hemang Lower Denkyira, Mr. Patrick Fiable, reaffirmed the NDC government’s commitment to investing in quality education and supporting institutions like Twifo Hemang SHTS with necessary infrastructure and resources.
As the anniversary was celebrated with awards and a sense of unity, Otumfo Amoah Sasereku’s rallying cry stood out—placing the spotlight on land protection as a fundamental responsibility of traditional leaders in building a sustainable educational future.
