Two young men have been arraigned before court for their alleged involvement in a robbery and assault incident that occurred in the early hours of June 13, 2026, at Ashaiman.
The complainant, 29-year-old trader Annette Bless Mantebea, a resident of Zongo Laka in Ashaiman, reported that she was attacked while walking near the Ashaiman Pesewa Plaza area at about 2:00 a.m.
According to police investigations, one of the accused persons, Mohammed Saad, 18, allegedly assaulted the complainant and snatched her handbag containing GH¢300. During a struggle, however, the victim managed to retrieve the bag. The suspect then allegedly seized her Tecno Pop 8 mobile phone, valued at GH¢1,000, and attempted to flee.
Police said the second accused, Aaron Tetteh, 19, was allegedly waiting nearby on a black Royal Eagle motorbike with registration number M-25-GT 1028 to assist in the escape. With the help of some young men in the area, Mohammed Saad was arrested at the scene while Aaron Tetteh reportedly fled on the motorbike.
The complainant, who sustained injuries including shaking front teeth, was issued a police medical report form and sought treatment at the Ashaiman Municipal Hospital. A medical report later confirmed that she had been assaulted.
Investigators disclosed that on June 15, 2026, the father of the first accused brought Aaron Tetteh to the police station and identified him as an accomplice in the crime. He was subsequently arrested to assist with investigations.
During investigations, Aaron Tetteh reportedly led police to the residence of the owner of the motorbike allegedly used in the operation, but neither the owner nor the motorbike was found.
Police obtained caution statements from both accused persons, who allegedly admitted to committing the offence together. The recovered Tecno Pop 8 mobile phone and handbag have been retained by police as exhibits.
The two accused persons have since been charged with robbery-related offences and placed before the court for prosecution.
