Professor Elvis Asare-Bediako, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Energy and Natural Resources (UENR), has praised the government for granting financial clearance to resume work on several abandoned infrastructure projects at the university, highlighting the positive impact on academic progress and student experience.
Speaking during a forum organized jointly by the Dean of Students’ office and the Students’ Representative Council (SRC) in Sunyani, Prof. Asare-Bediako revealed that completion of the Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) library, the Dormaa Campus lecture block, and the main entrance would significantly enhance teaching and learning on campus.
He further urged the government to extend financial support to additional projects, including an ICT facility, laboratories, and a lecture theatre complex, to strengthen the university’s infrastructure and provide students with modern academic resources.
The Vice-Chancellor also raised concerns over the poor condition of access roads to the main campus, calling for urgent government intervention to resume stalled reshaping works to improve safety and accessibility for students and staff.
Prof. Asare-Bediako stressed the importance of student engagement, praising SRC and National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) leaders for their cooperation in understanding administrative challenges and contributing to solutions that support the university’s development agenda.
SRC President Abdulai Adjei Zakaria described the forum as “timely and significant,” noting that it allowed student leaders to directly interact with management, discuss pressing challenges, and propose practical solutions to enhance campus life.
This renewed focus on infrastructure and collaborative governance is seen as a step toward ensuring UENR’s growth and improving the quality of education delivered to its students.
