Ghana’s Vice President, Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, has broken her silence following a recent medical trip abroad, delivering a heartfelt May Day tribute to Ghana’s workers in a message that emphasized unity, resilience, and national progress.
Despite recovering from a brief illness, the Vice President took to her official Facebook page to celebrate the strength and sacrifices of Ghana’s diverse workforce—ranging from farmers and traders to educators and healthcare professionals.
“I extend my heartfelt appreciation to the hardworking men and women across our country whose dedication keeps our nation moving forward,” she wrote, in what many saw as both a personal and national gesture of gratitude.
Her message, which struck a tone of solidarity and renewed commitment to workers’ rights, comes at a time when the nation continues to grapple with economic pressures and labour challenges.
“Your contributions shape the foundation of our national development,” she stated. “On behalf of Government, I salute your perseverance, your service, and your vision for a better Ghana.”
Professor Opoku-Agyemang also used the occasion to reaffirm the government’s commitment to inclusive growth and the protection of labour rights, urging continued collaboration to “advance the cause of labour and strive for progress that leaves no one behind.”
She ended her message with a powerful affirmation:
“Your work matters. Your voice matters. And our future matters.”
Her appearance—albeit virtual—reassured many of her ongoing engagement in state affairs, even while recuperating, and offered a unifying message at a critical time for Ghana’s workforce.
