MD Christian Li Leads Staff in Symbolic Customer Outreach to Fight Plastic Waste
In a bold display of corporate responsibility and leadership on climate action, Vivo Energy Ghana—the Shell licensee in Ghana—has launched a grassroots environmental initiative to curb plastic pollution and encourage more sustainable consumer habits.
The company’s Managing Director, Mr. Christian Li, spearheaded the campaign during a World Environment Day customer engagement held at the Airport Shell service station in Accra. The initiative forms part of the energy giant’s broader environmental sustainability agenda, aligning with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
To mark the occasion, Mr. Li and a team of Vivo Energy employees distributed eco-friendly, reusable glass bottles to customers as a symbolic gesture against single-use plastics.
“Our aim is to empower customers to become change agents in the fight against environmental degradation,” Mr. Li told attendees. “This simple bottle represents a larger commitment: reducing our reliance on plastic, rethinking consumption, and taking responsibility for the future of our planet.”
By replacing single-use plastics with durable, environmentally safe alternatives, Vivo Energy Ghana is not only amplifying the global “Beat Plastic Pollution” campaign but also repositioning the energy sector as an active stakeholder in climate resilience and eco-conscious business models.
The initiative is part of the company’s growing investment in sustainability innovation, contributing directly to SDG 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and SDG 13 (Climate Action). Mr. Li emphasized that businesses must do more than just comply with regulations—they must lead by example and integrate environmental consciousness into everyday operations.
Beyond distributing bottles, employees of Vivo Energy Ghana engaged customers with practical tips on sustainable living, including recycling techniques, proper waste disposal, and the long-term environmental cost of everyday plastic use.
Customers warmly welcomed the initiative, lauding Vivo Energy’s effort to move beyond awareness into actionable change. Many expressed hope that other companies would follow suit and help reshape public behavior on plastic consumption.
This year’s World Environment Day theme, “Beat Plastic Pollution,” provided the ideal backdrop for Vivo Energy Ghana’s public-facing climate leadership. With plastic waste continuing to threaten marine life, public health, and the country’s ecosystems, the company’s efforts signal a timely reminder that corporate innovation and civic engagement can—and must—go hand in hand.
