The Western Regional Police Command has intercepted two trucks carrying a large quantity of suspected Indian hemp at the Assokor barrier in the Shama Municipality, preventing a major drug trafficking attempt.
The discovery occurred during a routine vehicle inspection when officers stopped the trucks for checks. During the operation, it was reported that an attempt was made to bribe police officers with GH₵69,000 to release one of the suspects, but the officers rejected the offer and proceeded with arrests.
Superintendent of Police Olivia Ewurabena Adiku, Head of Public Affairs for the Western Regional Police, confirmed that three individuals have been arrested in connection with the case. She explained that one suspect initially fled but later led officers to a second vehicle parked at Nkrofo Junction.
The trucks were found to contain 152 large bales of suspected Indian hemp, each holding roughly 82 pieces of compressed material wrapped in yellow packaging.
Police have assured the public that the suspects will face prosecution, emphasizing their commitment to tackling drug trafficking and upholding law and order in the region.
