The West African Gas Pipeline Company (WAPCo) has successfully completed a critical four-week maintenance project on its gas pipeline network, restoring uninterrupted gas transportation services to Ghana, Togo, and Benin.
The maintenance, which involved offshore pipeline cleaning, subsea valve replacements, and system inspections, required the temporary shutdown of pipeline laterals in Cotonou (Benin), Lomé (Togo), and Tema (Ghana). Despite the scale and complexity of the operation, WAPCo announced that the project was completed ahead of schedule while ensuring the highest safety standards.
Dr. Isaac Adjei Doku, General Manager of Corporate Affairs at WAPCo, stated in a release that the maintenance was executed with “remarkable efficiency and safety,” minimizing the impact on gas supply to the affected countries.
Madam Michelle Burkett, WAPCo’s Managing Director, commended the team for their dedication and professionalism in completing the project under challenging conditions.
“This was a complex project, and your hard work, even in the face of challenges, made it a success,” she said. “The results speak for themselves, and I could not be prouder of what we have achieved.”
Acknowledging the temporary disruptions caused by the maintenance, she praised the swift response of the WAPCo team in ensuring a smooth and safe execution. She also expressed gratitude to the governments of Ghana, Nigeria, Togo, and Benin, as well as maritime and regulatory authorities, for their support throughout the process.
WAPCo further extended appreciation to its customers, gas off-takers, host communities, and shareholders for their patience and cooperation.
Reaffirming its commitment to operational excellence, WAPCo assured stakeholders that it would continue prioritizing safety, efficiency, and reliable gas supply in the region.
