Despite its massive success in 2025, Kojo Blak and Kelvynboy’s hit song “Excellent” was not nominated for the 2025 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMAs)—and Charterhouse has provided a clear reason: timing.
According to Robert Klah, Head of Communications and Public Events at Charterhouse, the song fell outside the eligibility period for the awards scheme. Speaking on Hitz FM, Klah explained that while “Excellent” is undoubtedly a big song, its peak came after the TGMA nomination window had closed.
“If you ask anybody about ‘Excellent’ today in March, they would tell you it’s a big song. But was it as big on December 31st? That’s the key question,” Klah stated.
The TGMAs review period covers commercially successful songs released between January 1 and December 31, 2024. “Excellent” was released on December 12, 2024, and while it gained popularity in early 2025, it did not have enough traction before the cut-off date.
“By December 31, how did it compare to other songs in the same category? If a song has just two weeks to make an impact before the year ends, it is naturally at a disadvantage compared to songs that dominated the entire year,” Klah elaborated.
While “Excellent” missed out on the 2025 edition, its overwhelming success in 2025 could make it a strong contender for the 2026 TGMAs—if Kojo Blak and Kelvynboy submit it for consideration.
For now, Charterhouse stands by its rules, insisting that the song’s exclusion was not an oversight but a matter of eligibility.
