The ongoing inheritance dispute involving the late highlife icon Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has taken an emotional turn, as Priscilla Ofori, also known as Odo Broni, disclosed how her relationship with the musician impacted her personal and professional life.
During cross-examination in court, Odo Broni revealed that she abandoned her nursing studies to focus on her relationship with Daddy Lumba. “I was pursuing a nursing career when I met him, but I left school because of the demands of our relationship and the role I played in his life,” she testified, emphasizing that her sacrifices reflected her commitment and the seriousness of their bond.
The courtroom drama intensified when the plaintiff, Akosua Serwaa Fosu, submitted photographs she claims were taken during her 2004 civil marriage to Daddy Lumba in Bornheim, Germany. The defense argued that the images were introduced too late and without verification, but the court admitted them into evidence.
Odo Broni’s testimony, focusing on years of loyalty and support, became a central part of the defense’s case, as she sought recognition as the late musician’s rightful widow. Meanwhile, the plaintiff’s legal team questioned the authenticity of the defense’s earlier submissions, pointing to inconsistencies and potential digital manipulation in some photographs.
Adding to the controversy, the first defendant, Abusuapanin Kofi Owusu, admitted that certain photos of Daddy Lumba and Odo Broni were provided to him by Priscilla herself, raising further questions about their context.
The dispute, which revolves around who is legally recognized as Daddy Lumba’s spouse, will ultimately determine the division of portions of his estate. The High Court is expected to deliver a much-anticipated judgment on Friday, November 28.
This case not only underscores the complexities of inheritance law in Ghana but also highlights the personal sacrifices and emotional stakes involved in relationships intertwined with public figures.
