A young woman has been arrested by the Bawku West District police after allegedly abandoning her four-day-old baby at the Zebilla market on March 28, 2025. The incident took place when the infant was found near some shops in the market, prompting a swift response from law enforcement and social welfare teams.
The police, upon receiving the baby, quickly ensured the infant’s safety by taking him to the Zebilla District Hospital for a medical examination and necessary care. Following the discovery, authorities launched a manhunt for the mother, who, along with her accomplice, was later apprehended at Kuloko, a village in the Binduri District.
On April 1, 2025, police officials from Zebilla, acting on intelligence, raided the farming community of Kuloko and arrested the suspect and her sister.
Joseph Anaba, the Assembly Member for Kuloko, confirmed the arrest in an interview with Citi News. He revealed that the suspect had become pregnant months earlier but was unaware of the identity of the baby’s father.
The case has raised concerns about the welfare of abandoned children, with authorities continuing their investigation into the incident.
