The 24-Hour Economy Secretariat has engaged the Bank of Ghana in a high-level meeting to align the country’s 24-hour economy initiative with broader macroeconomic objectives and operationalize the policy.
Presidential Advisor on the programme, Goosie Tanoh, emphasized that the initiative seeks to build on macroeconomic stability to stimulate growth, expand domestic production, and boost exports. He commended the central bank for providing a stable foundation that enables targeted micro-level interventions under the 24-hour economy framework.
A key focus of the discussions was the proposed Food Security and Price Stabilisation Fund, designed to curb commodity price volatility, reduce food inflation, and enhance national food security, complementing monetary policy measures.
The Secretariat and Bank of Ghana explored practical collaboration avenues, including a 24H+ credit policy, enterprise financing frameworks, coordinated credit appraisals, syndicated and direct lending opportunities, and balance sheet support for eligible 24-hour enterprises. Other measures discussed included credit insurance schemes, foreign exchange hedging instruments, regulatory considerations for 24-hour loan portfolios, and digital platforms to expand access to trade and finance.
The engagement is part of a broader effort by the Secretariat to consult stakeholders and secure strategic partnerships as the 24-hour economy programme moves into its operational phase. Outcomes from the discussions are expected to inform strategic regulatory policies that will enhance financial infrastructure and create a supportive environment for Ghanaian businesses operating under the 24-hour economy model.
