A daring police operation in Gomoa Buduburam has brought an end to the ordeal of 46 trafficking victims, including a child, who were reportedly lured from several West African countries under false promises of overseas travel and employment.
The Central East Regional Police Intelligence Department carried out the rescue at a heavily fortified house in Royal City, where the victims—nationals from Côte d’Ivoire, Benin, Togo, and other French-speaking countries—were allegedly held and extorted for large sums of money. Residents described the operation as dramatic, with officers having to disconnect an electric fence and scale walls to access the premises.
DSP Victor Dosoo, the Central East Regional Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed that one suspect has been apprehended, and investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest additional members of the trafficking network. The rescued victims are now in police care, receiving support and protection as authorities continue their inquiries.
Family members of the victims recounted how they had been coerced into paying ransom, only to later realize they were victims of a trafficking scam.
Police have warned the public to exercise caution and remain vigilant against trafficking syndicates that exploit promises of overseas opportunities to deceive vulnerable individuals.
