The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has initiated an appeal against the Kumasi High Court’s decision to acquit and discharge Alexander Kwabena Sarfo-Kantanka, former nominee for the Juaben Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) position.
Sarfo-Kantanka, nominated by President Nana Addo, faced 26 corruption charges alleging he bribed assembly members to secure approval after his nomination was rejected twice. The charges stemmed from a widely circulated video showing him demanding refunds from assembly members.
However, the High Court ruled that the video did not establish a direct link to the alleged bribery, leading to his acquittal.
The OSP has expressed strong disagreement with the verdict, arguing that the trial judge erred both legally and factually and that the evidence supports the charges. Believing that justice has not been served, the OSP is now pursuing further legal action to overturn the ruling at the appellate level.
