The newly enstooled Adehyemaa of Lower Town Axim and Nsein Traditional Area, Nana Akaa Kye II, has called on traditional rulers across the Nzema enclave to put aside longstanding divisions and rally behind a shared vision of socio-economic advancement.
Speaking at a colourful durbar that crowned her enstoolment by the Nsein Traditional Council, Nana Akaa Kye II urged chiefs and opinion leaders to prioritise unity over discord, noting that the lack of cohesion among traditional authorities continues to hinder the Nzema area’s development potential.
“Nzema cannot afford to be divided any longer. Unity is not just symbolic—it is strategic. Our people deserve better, and that begins with us, the custodians of the land,” she declared.
The newly installed queenmother, who doubles as a philanthropist and founder of the Motherhood of Africa NGO, was honoured for her enduring commitment to humanitarian work across Ghana and beyond. She pledged to harness her networks and experience to champion initiatives in health, education, economic empowerment, and cultural projection.
Nana Akaa Kye II outlined an ambitious development agenda, including:
- Mobile health outreach services for the aged and vulnerable to bridge the “distance poverty” that isolates communities from essential care.
- Continued support for free health screening during the annual Kundum festival.
- Investment in the Axim Government Hospital to improve healthcare delivery.
- Skills training and microcredit support targeting women and youth, aiming to break cycles of poverty and promote self-sufficiency.
- Platforms to connect young people with mentorship, vocational training, and funding opportunities, fostering economic dignity and long-term peace.
- Advocacy for improved infrastructure, especially roads and educational facilities.
Significantly, Nana Akaa Kye II expressed her intention to elevate the profile of Nsein and Nzema on the global stage, showcasing the area’s rich culture, values, and development potential to international partners.
“We must open the world’s eyes to the beauty and promise of Nzema,” she said, underscoring her vision of global connectivity for local impact.
The event drew a wide range of dignitaries, including Member of Parliament for Evaloe Ajomoro-Gwira, Mr. Kofi Arko Nokoe, who commended the queenmother’s leadership and reiterated his party’s (NDC) commitment to inclusiveness and traditional partnership in governance. He highlighted the government’s GH¢19 million allocation to local assemblies and pledged continued support for youth employment and cultural initiatives like the Kundum festival.
Also present was Awulae Agyevi Kwame, Paramount Chief of Lower Town Axim and Nsein, who welcomed the queenmother to the Council with open arms and assured her of his full backing in advancing the region’s development goals.
As she assumes her new role, Nana Akaa Kye II’s enstoolment represents more than a traditional rite—it signals a bold era of visionary leadership, inclusive governance, and community-driven progress for the people of Nzema.
