President John Mahama has announced a major boost for tertiary education, revealing that all first-year students enrolling in September 2025 will receive full academic fee refunds under the government’s new ‘No Fees Stress’ initiative.
Speaking at Jackson Park in Koforidua during his “Thank You Tour” on July 20, Mahama said the funds had already been secured, and the move was aimed at removing financial barriers for students, especially those from low-income families.
“In September, the new batch of first-year students who will be enrolled, money is ready to be reimbursed for their academic fees,” he said to loud applause.
The policy is part of a broader human capital agenda, which also includes resolving delayed student entitlements. Mahama disclosed that his government had paid six months of arrears owed to nursing and teacher trainees and assured them of consistent monthly allowances going forward.
The announcement underscores the Mahama administration’s renewed focus on education access, equity, and student welfare.
