The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has highlighted the pivotal role of its body camera surveillance strategy in ensuring transparency during the 2024 general elections.
Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Director of Elections and IT for the NDC, revealed that deploying body cameras to polling agents and election observers nationwide was instrumental in deterring alleged electoral fraud attempts by the then-ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Speaking at a post-election review meeting, Dr. Boamah described the technology as a “game-changer” that significantly strengthened the integrity of the electoral process. He explained that the presence of body cameras exposed malpractice in real-time, effectively neutralizing efforts to manipulate results.
“Our comprehensive activation of body cameras across the country served as a critical safeguard, ensuring that polling agents remained vigilant and accountable,” Dr. Boamah stated. “This innovation empowered citizens and helped protect the democratic process.”
The NDC’s use of technology during the elections has drawn praise from analysts who view it as a model for modern election monitoring. The party intends to build on this success by continuing to incorporate innovative tools to enhance transparency and uphold electoral fairness in future contests.
Dr. Boamah reaffirmed the NDC’s commitment to leveraging digital solutions as part of a broader strategy to strengthen Ghana’s democracy and prevent electoral malpractice.
