President John Dramani Mahama has embarked on a working visit to Japan and Singapore with a clear focus on securing new trade and investment opportunities to boost Ghana’s economy.
The trip, which underscores government’s drive to diversify partnerships beyond traditional allies, comes at a time when Ghana is seeking stronger foreign investment inflows and deeper cooperation in technology, infrastructure, and industrial development.
In Japan, President Mahama will join global leaders at the 9th Tokyo International Conference on African Development (TICAD IX). He is scheduled to address a high-level plenary on the theme “The Economy: Promoting Trade and Investment”, where he is expected to make a case for Ghana as a reliable investment destination.
Government officials say the President’s Asia tour is not only about diplomacy but also about unlocking practical economic benefits, including enhanced market access for Ghanaian exports, technology transfer, and stronger collaboration in education and energy.
Following his engagements in Japan, Mahama will travel to Singapore, where discussions are expected to focus on trade logistics, port development, and innovation partnerships, areas where Singapore is regarded as a global leader.
The visit is being closely watched by industry players and policy analysts, who see Asia as a critical frontier for Ghana’s next phase of economic transformation.
