Ghanaian students are set to benefit from broader educational opportunities in Türkiye following high-level talks between Minister for Sports and Recreation Kofi Adams and Mr. Abdulhadi Turus, President of the Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), in Ankara on 18th August 2025.
During the meeting, Mr. Turus highlighted the impact of the Türkiye Scholarships programme, which since 2011 has supported over 45,000 international students, including hundreds from Ghana. In 2025 alone, YTB received 628 applications from Ghanaian students in fields such as agriculture, engineering, international trade, and economics.
Crucially, YTB announced its readiness to expand scholarship offerings into sports-related disciplines, following Minister Adams’ request. The new focus will cover sports science, management, and recreation studies, aligning with Ghana’s national agenda to revive school sports and build a new generation of sports professionals.
Adams commended Türkiye’s longstanding role in supporting Ghana’s human resource development, stressing that the scholarship programmes have already produced skilled interpreters, technical experts, and professionals who are advancing bilateral trade and cooperation.
“Education remains at the heart of Ghana’s partnership with Türkiye,” Adams noted, adding that the expanded scholarships would not only address Ghana’s traditional manpower needs but also strengthen its sports ecosystem as a driver of youth empowerment and national development.
The meeting ended with both sides reaffirming their commitment to deepen educational and cultural collaboration, ensuring that scholarship placements reflect Ghana’s development priorities while strengthening people-to-people ties.
