Parliament resumes sitting today, Tuesday, October 21, 2025, with a packed agenda that will see lawmakers tackle major national issues as the legislative calendar draws to a close for the year.
The Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament is expected to be dominated by discussions on the 2026 Budget Statement and Economic Policy, which Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson is scheduled to present in mid-November. The budget is anticipated to outline government’s fiscal priorities ahead of the 2026 election year, including plans for growth, job creation, and debt sustainability.
Also on the agenda is the vetting of Justice Paul Baffoe-Bonnie, who has been nominated by the President for the position of Chief Justice. The Appointments Committee is expected to begin hearings in the coming days as Parliament moves to fill the vacancy at the head of the Judiciary.
Today’s sitting will also witness the swearing-in of two new Members of Parliament — Bernard Bediako Baidoo for Akwatia and Professor Alidu Seidu for Tamale Central — both elected on the ticket of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Their entry follows by-elections held earlier this year.
In a significant policy move, government will introduce a legislative instrument seeking to revoke L.I. 2462, which currently allows the President to authorise mining operations in forest reserves. The proposed measure is part of renewed efforts to strengthen environmental protection and curb illegal mining activities across the country.
Beyond these headline items, MPs will debate several bills, motions, and policy statements from various ministries and agencies before the House adjourns later in December.
Would you like me to prepare two additional rewrites — one focusing on the environmental reform agenda in Parliament and another on the political significance of the final 2025 session?
