Residents of Sunyani say they expect Ghana’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) to provide practical solutions to pressing economic challenges, particularly high electricity costs and youth unemployment.
President **John Dramani Mahama** delivered the address in Parliament on Friday, February 27, 2026, but ahead of the event, locals shared their hopes and concerns with the **Ghana News Agency**.
Madam Bennis Osei, a seamstress, expressed frustration over rising electricity bills, noting that the high cost was affecting small businesses: “We are fed up with the high electricity bills.”
Meanwhile, Mr. George Mensah, a basic school teacher, highlighted youth unemployment as a major development challenge, linking it to rising crime rates. He urged the government to take urgent steps to create jobs and secure a better future for young people.
Petty trader Madam Elizabeth Mensah acknowledged the government’s efforts in reviving the economy and reducing food prices, but she called for accelerated implementation of the promised Women Development Bank, which market women and small traders have long anticipated since the 2024 campaign.
The comments reflect the everyday concerns of Sunyani residents, who are looking to the SONA for actionable policies that directly improve livelihoods and economic opportunities.
