Baba Jamal Mohammed Ahmed has been officially declared the Member of Parliament-elect for Ayawaso East Constituency after securing 10,884 votes in Tuesday’s by-election, defeating the New Patriotic Party’s candidate, Yussif Ali Baba, who garnered 4,009 votes.
In his victory remarks, Baba Jamal emphasized that the win belongs to the residents of Ayawaso East, not just himself. “This victory is not for me alone; it’s for the good people of Ayawaso East,” he stated, attributing the success to both divine providence and the support of his constituents.
The MP-elect pledged to prioritize development and reset the constituency, promising a new phase of progress. “We are going to Parliament to reset the whole constituency and ensure that what East Ayawaso deserves comes to pass,” he said.
Baba Jamal also expressed gratitude to the leadership of the National Democratic Congress, including the chairman, the General Secretary, and President John Mahama, for their guidance and confidence in his candidacy.
He further acknowledged the media for its coverage of the election process, pledging to maintain a cooperative relationship moving forward. “I want to form a partnership with the press as we reset Ayawaso East. Please correct us when we are wrong, but do so in a professional and proper way,” he urged.
The by-election result marks a decisive victory for the NDC and signals a renewed focus on constituency development and governance under Baba Jamal’s representation.
