The National Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Johnson Asiedu Nketiah, has acknowledged the frustration among young Ghanaians following the ongoing security services recruitment exercise, describing their concerns as understandable.
In a message directed at the youth on Friday, he said he had received numerous calls and messages from applicants who were disappointed after failing to secure positions in the highly competitive recruitment process.
His remarks come after public reaction to his earlier comments indicating that about 500,000 applicants had competed for roughly 5,000 available positions in the security services.
According to Asiedu Nketiah, the statement was meant to highlight the scale of the challenge facing young people seeking employment rather than dismiss their concerns.
“When I pointed out that 500,000 young people had applied for only 5,000 available security slots, my intent was to illustrate the depth of the challenge, not to dismiss your concerns,” he said.
He also sought to encourage applicants who were unsuccessful, assuring them that their willingness to serve the country had been recognised.
Asiedu Nketiah added that the administration of President John Dramani Mahama remained committed to addressing the broader issue of youth unemployment and expanding opportunities for young people.
The security services recruitment exercise has generated debate in recent weeks, with some applicants and opposition figures raising concerns about the limited number of openings and the intense competition for positions.
