The coastal town of Keta is gearing up to strengthen its reputation as a sports tourism destination as preparations intensify for the Norvikporgbe Za Water Sports Festival this Easter.
The festival, which highlights emerging water-based sporting disciplines, has received a major boost with the presentation of trophies for key competitions, including Water Volleyball, Water Handball, and Relay Regatta. The awards, donated through the National Sports Authority, signal growing institutional support for non-traditional sports in Ghana.
Director-General of the Authority, Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, emphasised that investing in such disciplines would expand opportunities for young people while enhancing the country’s tourism appeal.
Stakeholders say the festival goes beyond competition, serving as a platform to drive local economic activity and community engagement. Regional sports officials believe the event could position Keta as a leading centre for water sports development in Ghana.
With participants and spectators expected from across the country, the festival is set to combine sport, recreation, and tourism, offering a new dimension to Ghana’s sporting calendar.
