Pressure is mounting on government to take firmer action in the wake of recent controversy involving the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, as New Patriotic Party (NPP) Communications Director, Richard Ahiagbah, advocates her removal from office.
Speaking on Joy News’ PM Express, Mr Ahiagbah argued that the issue goes beyond a single incident and reflects a troubling pattern of what he described as the growing “politics of insult” in Ghana’s public discourse.
According to him, while the public apology issued by the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, signals acknowledgment at the highest level, it should not be considered a sufficient resolution.
He maintained that decisive action, including dismissal, is necessary to demonstrate accountability and deter similar conduct in the future.
Mr Ahiagbah stressed that the matter touches on the fundamental democratic right of citizens to freely express their views without fear of intimidation or personal attacks, warning that failure to impose consequences could embolden others.
He further noted that Ghana has, in the past, taken strong stands against unacceptable public conduct, suggesting that a similar approach is needed to preserve respect and civility in national conversations.
While commending the Chief of Staff’s intervention as significant, he insisted that lasting impact would depend on concrete measures that reinforce standards within public office.
The debate continues to generate national attention, with differing views emerging over whether the situation warrants dismissal or a more measured disciplinary response.
