Twenty-five hardworking public sector employees in the Oti Region were honoured with household appliances and special recognition awards during the 2026 May Day celebration organised by the Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana regional secretariat.

The awards ceremony, held at the parade grounds in Kadjebi, recognised workers for their dedication and commitment to public service.

Award categories included Best Worker of the Year, Best Female Worker, Longest Serving Worker, and Dedicated Worker.

Recipients went home with prizes such as freezers, refrigerators, sewing machines, television sets, ovens, and other appliances.

Oti Regional Chairman of Civil and Local Government Staff Association, Ghana, Mr Francis Apawu, praised workers for their resilience and sacrifices, saying their contributions continue to keep public institutions functioning effectively.

He called on Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives to institutionalise annual reward schemes for outstanding workers to improve morale and productivity.

Speaking on the national May Day theme, “Pivoting to Growth, Jobs and Sustainable Livelihood Beyond Macroeconomic Stability,” Mr Apawu stressed that economic stability must translate into real benefits for workers.

He said workers need improved incomes, job security, and better living conditions rather than economic gains that remain only on paper.

Mr Apawu also addressed CLOGSAG’s recent 14-day ultimatum to government, stating that discussions had been held and members would soon be updated on the outcome.

In a speech delivered on behalf of Oti Regional Minister John Kwadwo Gyapong, government commended workers for their discipline and professionalism.

The statement, read by Rev. Harry Nii Kwatei Owoo, Oti Regional Coordinating Director, reaffirmed government’s commitment to job creation, fair wages, safe working conditions, and stronger social protection systems.

Suraj Issaka Suraj also praised workers for helping sustain the economy despite challenging times.

Speaking on behalf of award recipients, Mr Prosper Tsormana expressed appreciation to organisers and donors for recognising their efforts.
