Ghanaian football star Mohammed Kudus has described the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar as the best football tournament he has ever played in, surpassing even the prestigious UEFA Champions League.
The West Ham United midfielder, who made his World Cup debut in Qatar, left a lasting impression by scoring twice in three matches for the Black Stars. His standout performance came against South Korea, where he netted a crucial brace in Ghana’s group-stage victory.
Reflecting on the experience in an interview with Rising Ballers, the 24-year-old expressed his admiration for the tournament.
“It was amazing. The World Cup in Qatar was just different—my first time, and my family was there to support me. That made it even more special,” Kudus shared.
Although Ghana’s campaign ended prematurely in the group stage, Kudus still treasures the opportunity.
“We didn’t go as far as I’d hoped, but being part of it was incredible,” he added.
With the 2026 FIFA World Cup on the horizon, Kudus is eager to help Ghana secure qualification. Despite missing the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), he remains focused on the upcoming World Cup qualifiers.
The Black Stars will resume their qualification campaign in March 2025 with a home fixture against Chad at the Accra Sports Stadium, followed by an away match against Madagascar in Antananarivo.
Currently, Ghana sits in a strong position with three wins from four games, having defeated Mali, the Central African Republic, and Madagascar, while suffering a single loss to Comoros. They have accumulated nine points, scoring seven goals and conceding five.
Kudus, yet to find the net in the qualifiers, will be keen to make his mark when the Black Stars return to action in March.
