UEFA has launched an investigation into four Real Madrid players, including Kylian Mbappé and Vinícius Júnior, over alleged “indecent conduct” during their Champions League round of 16 match against Atletico Madrid on March 12.
Antonio Rüdiger and Dani Ceballos are also under scrutiny, with UEFA appointing a disciplinary inspector to review the unspecified allegations. The controversy erupted after video clips circulated online, showing Mbappé making a questionable gesture during Madrid’s celebrations following their penalty shootout victory.
Rüdiger, who scored the decisive penalty, led his teammates in a jubilant celebration at Atletico’s stadium, which is also part of the investigation. If found guilty, the players could face suspensions, potentially ruling them out of Madrid’s quarterfinal first-leg clash against Arsenal on April 8.
The case draws parallels with a previous UEFA disciplinary action against Jude Bellingham. The England and Madrid midfielder was fined €30,000 ($32,400) and handed a suspended one-game ban for a similar gesture during Euro 2024 after scoring a crucial goal for England against Slovakia.
With UEFA’s disciplinary panel set to review the matter, Real Madrid could face setbacks ahead of their crucial Champions League quarterfinal encounter.
